About Jake

Jake Armour, Photographer, Chapter President of ASMP-MSP
Light is the root of my creative and has been fundamental in my journey from tabletop to fashion to portraiture. I was 11 when I was given my first camera. I’ve been enamored by photographic magic ever since. In the 80’s I completed a program at The New England School of Photography. It was there, in the upside-down and backward world of the 4x5 camera, I learned that my creative and dyslexic brain was an incredible asset. I acquired my superpower, the ability to bend and manipulate light.
My lighting skills led to photographic partnerships with clients from Target to Delta Airlines to Prince. Eventually I found my way to fashion photography culminating in an epic 7-year long relationship with maurices, traveling across North America producing retail fashion photography. Working in fashion, I found that my ability to truly connect with people is another superpower. It is effortless for me to create trust with the people on the other side of my lens. Shooting portraiture is deeply fulfilling and has created a wide range of fresh opportunities. In addition to my ad and design clients, I also create imagery for corporate and direct clients. I have received numerous awards from the AdFed of MN to Communication Arts to the AIGA.
A great portrait tells a story. After decades with a camera in my hand, I have found my true happy place; storytelling, one image at a time.
My other happy place is my family. My wife Hope, is also my business partner and the producer at Armour Photography. She and I manage to work together every damn day and stay in love. Together we have raised up this business and two amazing and brilliant young men. I’m immensely proud to be a part of it all.
Working with Jake
“Jake is one of the most brilliant photographers I have ever worked with in my 17-year career. His ability to balance client need, creative expression and project deliverables is unmatched. His approach begins and ends with partnership. If you aren't happy, he isn't happy. He welcomes feedback, in fact proactively seeks it, throughout the process while ensuring he brings his creative eye and problem-solving skills to every client need. Every project I have done with Jake and his team has been worry-free and the output has been outstanding. “

“The Stich: Big brand needs kickass internal campaign featuring stylized portraiture of its employees. A lot of it. And it's gotta be hawt."
"The Man: Jake Armour steps in with his unbridled enthusiasm, his unquestionable originality, his always-on-top-of-it producer (yeah, Hope!), and oh... his camera. And proceeds to own it. Mr. Armour's passion goes for light years. He takes an ordinary project and squeezes so much extraordinary out of it. Jake's warm, personable attitude and willingness to collaborate on greatness makes IT SO INCREDIBLY EASY TO WORK WITH HIM. So we'll be doing it again soon.”
